Style Rules For Modern Living

Seemingly Ben Fogle has it all; a beautiful wife and family, a thriving broadcasting career, opportunities for adventures, great style and now his latest accolade, a collaboration with Barbour. Surely if there was any man fitting for such a partnership it's Ben. Here he shares some of his style rules and go-tos...

The last things I bought were a pair of Incotex cargo trousers and a vintage workwear jacket from Portobello Road. I just had some new suits made by Cad & the Dandy and bought a pair of shorts from Orlebar Brown. I live in their shorts all year round.

I have a very specific style which is neutral colours and no big logos. Simplicity is the answer. I don’t like things to look like they are brand new and prefer a slightly distressed look.

Blue is my default colour. I love indigo. It’s really easy to wear and that is why you’ll see a few pieces in this colour within my Barbour Wilderness collection.

Chore Jacket, £132 | J.Crew | Crewneck T-Shirt , £22 |  J.Crew | Slim-Fit Jeans, £225 | RRL | Emergency Watch | Breitling |

I would never wear oversized suiting because a clean silhouette is important to me and I don’t think clothes should take centre stage.

My first luxury fashion purchase was a classic Barbour. I bought my first jacket around 1990; it was the Beaufort style and I still have it today.

My favourite stores are J.Crew and RRL but there is something timeless about Barbour which I love.

Cole Wax Jacket, £239.95 | Barbour | Japanese Chambray Shirt Jacket, £145 |  J.Crew | Slim-Fit Twill Trousers, £250| Incotex | Desert Boots, £105 | Clarks

My off-duty brands are Orlebar Brown for shorts and Fedeli for shirting. Gap have great denim shirts which I buy a lot of. I also really like the crew-neck sweater from my Barbour Wilderness collection - it has a vintage feel to it and I love the colour. For shoes, I love a simple pair of Converse.

I spend a lot of time outdoors both for work and in my spare time so I have quite a collection of outdoor jackets, mainly from Nigel Cabourn.

When I wear suiting I will always choose a three-piece suit. I like a good cut and silhouette is important for me.

Skiddaw Quilted Jacket, £139 | Barbour | 484 Slim-Fit Rigid Jeans, £143 |  J.Crew | Wallace & Barnes Crewneck Sweater, £250 | J.crew

I’d describe my style in two words: thoughtful and understated.

I live in desert boots which I buy in the USA but when I can’t get out there I will wear Veldskoen desert boots from South Africa. I also really love workwear styles of clothing and wear a lot of workwear jackets.

I love Breitling watches. I have always worn an Emergency watch and still love their designs today.
