9 Of The Best Non-Alcoholic Drinks For Dry January
THE DIGESTIF
The Everyday Set, £60 | NON
If you’re after a smart bottle for dinner parties and gifts, NON fits the bill. The Melbourne-based brand works with bartenders, food scientists and winemakers to create its 0% drinks. Natural ingredients are blended before being roasted, fermented and distilling to create bold, complex flavours – minus the alcohol. There are currently three flavours to choose from, including a chardonnay-inspired white with notes of cinnamon and yuzu, a sweeter sparkling rosé alternative, and grown-up digestif with notes of stewed cherry and coffee – a great substitute for an espresso martini.

THE SPIRIT
Padauk, £40 | Sylva
Ben Branson, founder of Seedlip, recently opened Sylva, a non-alcoholic distillery and maturation lab in Essex. The lab creates small batches of non-alcoholic ‘spirits’ that mimic the complexity and richness of aged spirits, using state-of-the-art techniques like sonic maturation and vacuum distillation. Sylva’s first release, Padauk, is named after a type of West African wood. It’s rich and textured, with notes of red oak and rye, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. Sylva’s made-to-order spirits come in at <0.5% ABV, with its first product now available to order on its website.

THE COWBOY’S FAVOURITE
Distilled Non-Alcoholic Spirit, £34.99 | The Pathfinder
Thanks to TV series Yellowstone and chart-topping country music, cowboy culture is cool again. Cue new American spirit The Pathfinder, which has just made its way across the pond. Created by Steven Grasse (the man behind Hendrick’s gin and Sailor Jerry rum), the drink was inspired by apothecaries and alternative medicines from the Old West. The rich, hemp-based drink is distilled in copper pot stills and infused with botanicals like juniper, sage and orange peel. Enjoy it as a shot, on the rocks, or in a spritz with soda and lemon juice.

THE MOOD BOOSTER
Non-Alcoholic Spirit, £21 | Three Sprits
American brand Three Sprits doesn’t just make quaffable drinks. Each glass is packed with adaptogens, which could plausibly help you with everything from boosting mood to reducing stress. The brand blends these with natural botanicals and superfoods, before they’re fermented and distilled to bring out complex, herbaceous flavours. Available in the UK for the first time, there are three flavours for different occasions: the citrusy ‘Social’ is enhanced with lion’s mane mushroom and cacao for a pick me up; the zingy ‘Livener’ is packed full of botanical extracts; and the lightly spiced ‘Nightcap’ is for winding down.

THE VINO
Zeronimo Wine
Non-alcoholic wines have come a long way in recent years. Zeronimo might just be the one to convince you of that. The premium Austrian brand uses new tech to de-alcoholise the wine, before it’s aged for a couple of years in oak barrels. Its Leonis Red is made from a blend of zweigelt, blaufränkisch and cabernet sauvignon grapes – and it’s the most highly rated red (98pts on the Falstaff scale) ever to be de-alcoholised. There’s also a white and rosé on offer.
